Albano lake and the "Roman Castles"

Albano Lake is one of the widest volcanic basin of the Region, and it is the perfect scenery for a journey far away from the chaotic traditional touristical routes of Rome .

The lake is famous for its gorgeous panorama and for the beauty of the little towns in its surroundings, called “Roman Castles”, like Castel Gandolfo, where is located the Pope's summer residence, Marino, in the north and Albano in the south.

You can also find Ariccia, Genzano and just a few kilometers far the Lake of Nemi which is close to the ruins of Albalonga, Romans' worst enemy in the past

Caffarella park

Caffarella Park is located inside the valley of river Almone, just a few steps away from the centre of the city, and it is one of the most beautiful scenery of Rome , thanks to its natural and historical inheritance.

You can discover here the place where, according to the legend, the nymph Egeria used to meet the king Numa Pompilio and a lot of other archeological ruins well conserved.

"Appia Antica" park

The road named “Appia” was built in 312 B.C by the consol Appio Claudio and it gained very soon the title of “queen of all the roads”, thanks to the revolutionary tecnique on which it was paved.

Along this street is located the Appia Antica archeological park, where you can find a lot of monuments and tombs that witness the republican age of the Roman civilization.

Rome, Caput Mundi

It is really impossible to present in few lines one of the most beautiful city in the world: according to the legen, Rome was founded on April 21, 753 B.C. and since that day has covered a fundamental role in Italy and in Europe for over 3.000 years.

During the Roman Empire , the city was called “caput mundi”, literally “head of the world”, for its religious and political influence over all the known world. Rome still witness this important inheritance: it is still the seat of the Roman Church and the Capitol of the Italian Republic .

Today Rome looks like an important and lively metropolitan city, proud of his faboulous past but cosmopolitan at the same time, thanks to that old spirit that has made this city special during the history.

Horse riding

Capannelle hippodrome

Just a few steps far from the Locanda you can find the Capannelle hippodrome, a big structure that is 1 milion square miles wide.

Inside this famous hippodrom, you can see races almost each day, in one of the three race fields.

The hippodrome has 2 closed spaces that could host over 20.000 watchers, with 2.000 seats, 2 parkings inside and outside the structure, 2 restaurants and 4 bars.

"Acqua Santa" Horse racing club

A half mile far from The Locanda, you can find the so called “Scuderie del Circolo Ippico Acquasanta”, where you can have horse riding lessons (with horses and pony for the little ones) and tracks perfectly designed for increasing your technical skills or just take a walk with a horse or with a chariot.

"Excalibur" horse racing club

In this centre you can find a pony riding school with over 20 ponies, 2 first level instructors and many other waiters.

The club also offer you: hurdles tracks, dressage tracks, a little field for children, indoor field, paddock and more than 1 miles of riding track.

"Acquasanta” golf club

Just close to the Locanda you can find the “Acquasanta” Golf Club, one of the oldest and the most important club of Rome .

The golf field inside has 18 holes distributed on an area of 3,6 square miles with Par and s.s.s. 71.

Inside the club you can also find: ping pong, swimming pool, soccer field, shops, sauna, kinderheim and many other more.

“Tor Carbone” tennis club covers an area of 38 square miles inside the Appia Antica Park and offer you 6 tennis clay courts and 3 synthetical grass ones.

Oenogastronomy

Roman Castles' wines

The “Roman Castles” area, called also “Colli Albano”, is placed in the southern-eastern part of the Capital, just few miles far from the Locanda, inside the basin of a big old volcano.

This area is famous not only for the beauty of his landscape but also for the great wines and the gastronomical tipical dishes, especially the meat ones.

Roman Castles' wines are the most appreciated of the region: the white ones, coming from the Malvasia and Trebbiano vitigni , take their brand from the ring of cities all around, also known as the “Roman Castles”: Frascati, Marino, Colli Albani and Grottaferrata, one of the most interesting of the Castles, thanks to the millenary abbey, where once the wine was done.

Frascati is the most important centre of wine production, and since 1966, its wines has gained the label of “DOC”, that certifies the wines' quality.

The special properties of these wines come from the volcanical ground on which they grow, high from 300 (180) to 600 meters ( 360 yards ) upon the sea level.

The city is also famous all over the world for its important villas.

Ariccia's porchetta

The “porchetta” is maybe the most popular meat dish of the Roman area and the main plate during the feasts.

“Porchetta” comes from pork, that is cooked grilled and aromatized with salt, pepper, onion and fennel.

It is usually served in slices and ate with hand made bread and its taste makes the city of Ariccia , the capitol of Porchetta, worth the visit.

Ariccia dedicates a feast to porchetta during the first Sunday of July.

The Locanda offers you even the opportunity to have a shiatsu therapy of one hour and a half, available on demand during your stay at the hotel.

Shiatsu is an antique tecnique that operates on the “energy world” and that is inspired by the principles of the Chinese medicin, according to which the man is just a little resume of the universe, with colours, seasons and elements of the surrounding nature.
